The drawings of Perino del Vaga: an artist stunningly balanced between Raphael and Michelangelo.
[Perino del Vaga / between Raphael and Michelangelo] Pietro Bonaccorsi, known as Perino del Vaga (Florence 1501 – Rome 1547), was an artist appreciated for his function as a fundamental connection between two stylistic currents usually considered antithetical, namely those of Raphael and Michelangelo.
The catalogue of the exhibition held in Mantua for the 500th anniversary of his birth illustrates his activity as a draftsman, an art he took to the highest levels, creating an enormous quantity of works designed to be translated into different techniques: frescoes, stucco work, oil on canvas, tapestries, embroidery, engraved crystal.
The drawings are accompanied by a selection of paintings on board and canvas, detached frescoes, tapestries, crystal and silver.
