This is the catalogue of an exhibition on Francesco Somaini on in Milan from 1 July to 11 September 2022 and spread across three venues: Palazzo Reale, Museo del Novecento and Fondazione Somaini. The multi-location exhibition revisits the work of an internationally renowned maestro. Starting from the early years of his development and continuing to the last period, it examines all the different spheres of his multiform creative research, sometimes pursued in collaboration with leading lights of the Milanese culture such as Lucio Fontana and Luigi Caccia Dominioni.
The spread-out nature of the exhibition is conveyed and further developed in a publication that is more an in-depth monograph than a traditional catalogue. The three exhibition nuclei are featured in three principal historical and critical appraisals by Francesco Tedeschi, Fulvio Irace and Alessandro Del Puppo, in turn completed by a series of detailed monographic analyses of specific episodes in the sculptor’s career and particularly significant works such as his famous Monument to Italian Sailors. The monographic profiles are by Paolo Campiglio, Giovanna Calvenzi, Danka Giacon, Emanuele Greco, Marco Sammicheli and Chiara Rampoldi. Completing the publication is a packed section of additional material.
