The first monograph on the work of the Greek architect: from Greek folk traditions to the Modern Movement, to the celebrated project for the area of the Acropolis in Athens.

The book presents, for the first time, the complete work of Dimitris Pikionis (1887-1968), an eclectic Greek architect whose approach is rooted in Greek regional traditions. Relying on research most of which has never before been published, the volume outlines the career of Pikionis, from the debut in Athens in 1921 to the project for the elementary school of Pefkakia at Lycabettus in 1932, a building that bears witness to his involvement with the architecture of the Modern Movement; from the Delphi cultural center to the experimental school of Salonicco, which already reflects his research on vernacular architecture, to the projects for the community of Axioni and the recreational park of Athens. In 1954 Pikionis began work on the reordering of the archaeological area around the Acropolis, his greatest masterpiece, a peerless example of interpretation of the spirit of antiquity through modern sensibility.
