[Peripheries and new urban dimensions]. A collection of projects and research on urban and metropolitan peripheries, conducted by the Department of Architectural Design of the Milan Polytechnic. The themes addressed represent an in-depth investigation of the content of the exhibition “Periferie e nuove urbanità” (Milan Triennale, June-October 2003). The volume proposes going beyond the conventional concept of the periphery and dichotomy between historical centers and urban outskirts. The territorial systems outside consolidated nuclei are thus granted independent potential for economic development and “new urban dimensions”. Particular focus on Milan and Lombardy.
