A collection of extraordinary works including gouaches, sculptures and jewellery made by Braque during the last years of his life. A tribute to the artist who together with Picasso can be considered one of the greatest exponents of the Cubist movement.
For a long time Braque resisted the temptation of sculpture, and when he finally approached this medium it was through the creation of jewellery that the “metamorphosis” took place, accompanied by an awareness and curiosity that was almost disarming. This was possible because Georges Braque’s art is timeless and his research is first and foremost a human undertaking that reproduces the world in all its fullness. The mysterious presence of a bird, the archetype of freedom, dominates the works of his final years, inspiring a sublime series of drawings and lithographs, and its flight accompanied the artist until his death.
