An unusual perspective on 19th-century painting: the Ticinese alumni of the Academy of Brera.

Since its founding the Brera Fine Arts Academy has enjoyed great prestige, due to the presence of some of the greatest artists of the moment as teachers of the various disciplines. The catalogue of the exhibition held in Rancate, Canton Ticino, in 2000 retraces, for the first time, the story of the fertile relationship that united, through the 19th century, the Brera Academy and some of its most promising students of Ticinese origin. The book analyzes about 50 works, subdivided in theme sections, from historical-literary subjects of the Romantic era to genre scenes, portraits and landscapes, offering an unusual perspective on 19th-century painting.
