DIOCLEZIANO ALL’OPERA Four dates in July at the Baths of Diocletian to enjoy the most celebrated arias

The Museo Nazionale Romano, in collaboration with Electa, is opening the Baths of Diocletian on Monday evenings for an unmissable summer season.
On 10, 17, 24 and 31 July, the most celebrated arias in the great classical repertoire will be playing in Aula VIII, the ancient hall overlooking the Natatio pool, with its surviving portion of the monumental facade.
The Diocleziano all’Opera programme is curated by the Teatro dell’Opera di Roma. Giovanni Bietti, a composer, pianist and musicologist, will introduce the themes for the four evenings and accompany the young performers of the Fabbrica Young Program, who will play the arias.

“A quality cultural offer for a different experience of the Baths of Diocletian”, says Daniela Porro, Director of the Museo Nazionale Romano, which is promoting the initiative.

On these four evenings, the ancient bath spaces will be open to visitors as too the so-called Chiostro Piccolo and the Chiostro Grande of the Certosa of the Basilica di Santa Maria degli Angeli e dei Martiri, traditionally attributed to Michelangelo.

“While our usual summer season is being held at the Baths of Caracalla – says the General Manager of the Teatro dell'Opera di Roma Carlo Fuortes – we are delighted to embrace this initiative linking us to another beautiful archaeology site in Rome. The Diocleziano all’Opera programme indicates the Theatre’s desire to open itself up to the city and work with other major city cultural realities. We are involving the talented youngsters of the “Fabbrica" Young Artist Program of the Teatro dell' Opera di Roma and I am sure that the splendid archaeological spaces of the Baths will multiply the meanings and beauty of the music and song."

The concert admission is free when you purchase the museum ticket, valid for three days for the other Museo Nazionale Romano premises: Palazzo Massimo, Palazzo Altemps and Crypta Balbi.
