Giuseppe Tortato. Geometrie veloci. Ab medica headquarter

With texts by Cesare Maria Casati, Francesca Cerruti, Guido Musante and Giorgio Tartaro, this book documents the conception and construction of the modern Headquarters of the AB Medica industrial group at Cerro Maggiore, built to a design by architect Giuseppe Tortato, 10 years after its completion.

Inspired by the hulls of super-fast watercraft, the project for the new AB Medica headquarters expresses the dynamism and innovation of a group at the cutting edge of research combined with a concern for energy saving and the psychophysical well-being of the staff. A fast and functional building but at the same time one whose forms represent the activities it houses. Eco-sustainability, industry, creativity and experimentation, exposure to the sun, elimination of motorway noise pollution, and well-being of the staff are the main points of the project tailor-made for the client. An icon that conveys a sense of technological power and dynamism that fully represents the company and at the same time allows an experience that has improved the quality of life of its users. The volume offers a detailed analysis of the project, from the construction phases to the choice of materials and technologies adopted. All the components are analytically described by their creators and expert commentators in essays accompanied by a rich collection of authorial photographs and technical drawings selected with both an informative and educational purpose.

Giuseppe Tortato was born in Venice in 1967. He graduated from the Politecnico di Milano and then studied at the University of Amherst in Massachusetts; here he collaborated with a pupil of Paolo Soleri on the construction of public and private buildings in keeping with the principles of bioclimatic architecture. Back in Milan, after collaborating with Dante Benini, he joined the studio Milano Layout, eventually becoming its co-principal. In 2013 he founded Giuseppe Tortato Architects.
