The volume accompanies the exhibition held in Verona, at the Museo del Castelvecchio, from 14 March to 27 July 2025, to mark the eightieth anniversary of the Liberation from Nazi-Fascism.
1943-1945: Italy, ravaged by air raids, experienced civil war and military occupation. In Verona, fascism was re-established, this time in republican form. While those who “betrayed” Mussolini were being sentenced to death, command posts and prisons proliferated, deportation convoys were organised and torture was widely used. How did it come to this? How would the city and the whole country emerge from this plight? Images and words recount the drama until the dawn of freedom.
