The places of Perugino between Perugia and Lake Trasimeno

Marking the 500th anniversary of Perugino’s death, an itinerary in the form of a guide to the Umbrian places where he lived and created his works. An immersive experience in Perugino’s painting and therefore in the extraordinary artistic season of the Umbrian Renaissance.

Starting from Perugia, the city where Perugino (Città della Pieve, 1448 – Fontignano, 1523) lived for many years and had a workshop, and from which he derived his name, the book presents an itinerary that takes in his masterpieces, from the frescoes in the Collegio del Cambio to the altarpieces for the Cathedral of San Lorenzo and the Monastery of Sant’Agnese. Other cities in the region preserve testimonies to his presence. At Città della Pieve, his birthplace, we can admire the Adoration of the Magi in the Oratory of Santa Maria dei Bianchi, the Baptism of Christ in the Cathedral and the frescoes in the Church of Santa Maria dei Servi. In Cerqueto the famous Saint Sebastian in the Church of Santa Maria Assunta, at Corciano the Assumption of Mary in the Church of Santa Maria Assunta. Our journey takes us through Deruta and Fontignano, ending at Panicale, a small medieval town where the Church of San Sebastiano contains the fresco depicting the Martyrdom of Saint Sebastian.

Each entry describes the location of the work, the context in which it is preserved, information for the visit and finally a history and description of the fresco or altarpiece.
