This volume publishes the proceedings of the international conference on History of Art and Feminism: Confirmations, Transformations and Perspectives for Research, held on 19 and 20 February 2024 at the Università La Sapienza in Rome.
This publication is one of the editorial initiatives of the Fondazione Fondamenta and, more specifically, of the project ‘Esistere come donna’. It reflects the current state of research connecting art history and feminism, starting from a critical and theoretical outlook that, since the seventies, has underpinned the methods of study and approaches. The premise is that feminism was not only a political movement but also a cultural one, namely a critical and theoretical perspective capable of defining a field of research, and that it contributed to the reinterpretation and rewriting of art history, as a history of culture as a whole, from antiquity to the present day, through the history of images and representation.
The volume sees the collaboration of Italian and international scholars, among the most authoritative in the field of contemporary art and gender studies.
