Mart presents the first anthology exhibition dedicated to Robert Morris's (Kansas City, 1931) films and videos.
One of the key figures of the 20th century art scene, both for his artwork and his key writings, Morris, who studied engineering at the University of Kansas, focuses on the basic expressive elements of matter: weight, volume and shape determined by gravity. However his research on sculpture goes beyond the mere object: in 1963 he interpreted theatre and cinema through the eyes of a sculptor at the Judson Dance Theatre, a crossroads for American experimentation in the 1960s. Projected on the walls of Mart’s vast rooms, the most relevant performances and films from 1963 to 2005 serve as a perfect counterpoint to the sculptures and sound installations. For this occasion some of the artist’s fundamental texts have been published for the first time in Italian.
