Residence of the Doge until the end of the 1700s, the time of the fall of the Venetian Republic, Palazzo Ducale was the political, cultural and military center of the city.
The guide, after a short history of the construction of the building, in a gothic style as a whole, describes its exterior and its monumental entrance, the Porta della Carta, with the aid of magnificent images.
Accompanied by complete illustrations, the volume analyzes each interior’s original uses, describing all the sumptuous decorations. Particularly interesting spaces include the halls of the Collegio, the Senate, the Council of Ten and the Great Council, featuring splendid frescoes by Veronese, Tintoretto, Palma il Giovane.
The guide follows the visit itinerary, and includes a floorplan for each level of the building.
