A tribute to Vernazza, the most beautiful of the five towns of the Cinque Terre, from a local businessman who has always fostered sensitive development, paying due respect to his hometown's culture, local food and marvellous natural environment.
Founded in about the year 1000, Vernazza, more than any other of the towns of the Cinque Terre, has conserved the appearance of a mediaeval seaport, thanks to its sheltered natural harbour and a seafaring tradition that stretches back to Antiquity. The town is also an eloquent testimonial to the hard work of local farmers over the centuries; men and women who painstakingly shaped the earth of its steep slopes into innumerable terraces, where olive trees and vines still grow today, flanked by sweet-smelling orchards and gardens full of flowers. Vernazza is also famous for its railway station and for the famous and controversial figures who visited the town from the 1960s onwards. This illustrated book is a sort of tribute to Vernazza by a local restaurateur who has offered guests the typical hospitality of the Cinque Terre for decades, promoting its culture, flavours and perfumes. The colourful tale of Gianni Franzi and his beloved Vernazza.
