Published on the occasion of the reopening of Milan's La Scala and the relevant photographic exhibition, the book is distinguished by its fine quality and original graphics.
This book is the outcome of an encounter between Graziella Vigo and Riccardo Muti on the occasion of Verdi’s centenary (the 2000-2001 season), celebrated with the staging at La Scala in Milan of seven operas by the genius from Busseto conducted by Muti.
The extraordinary photographs of the performances: Il Trovatore, Rigoletto, La Traviata, Falstaff – both the version staged at La Scala and that at Busseto – Un Ballo in Maschera, Macbeth and Otello comprise 130 selected images of whole scenes, but also of enlarged details that make a strong visual impact, and brilliantly capture moments from the operas in which the scene appears suspended in a perfect harmony of stage set, costumes, gestures and colours.
The introduction to the volume includes a text on Verdi by Quirino Principe and an interview with Riccardo Muti by Guido Vergani. There is a brief description of every opera, while the book is completed by technical information on each of the eight performances.
