An original architect, Gustav Peichl combines multiple references to the main formal experiences of the 20th century with an ironic curiosity regarding the formal universe of contemporary technique.

[Gustav Peichl. Constructed works and projects 1952-1987] An original architect, open to experimentation, Gustav Peichl combines multiple references to the main formal experiences of the 20th century with an ironic curiosity regarding the formal universe of contemporary technique. This is evident in works like the six regional facilities the Austrian radio network (1969-72 and 1979-81) and the purification plant in Berlin (1980-85), featuring forms derived from imaginary machines, with details and solutions firmly rooted in European culture. A similar dialectic is seen in the projects on an urban scale (project for the Pirelli Bicocca area, 1986), based on the relationship between architectural form and urban design. The solutions are brilliant, surprising, but always realistic. The critical and documentary materials gathered in this volume narrate the intelligent dualism of the architect, and his coherent, innovative approach.
