Introduction by Rolando Polli
Afterword by Dario Di Vico
Is immigration a problem or a resource? Stefano Proverbio and Roberto Lancellotti’s book is an attempt at answering this difficult question, and many others like it, in the hope of dispelling some of the myths surrounding immigration and its associated misleading claims, often based on hearsay rather than facts. Their chief inspiration for this book was Galileo Galilei’s “Dialogue Concerning the Two Chief World Systems”.
Nowadays the biggest controversies are often sparked by social issues. Immigration and the problems it brings in its wake are one of the hottest topics in current affairs, both in Italy and abroad, and deserve to be thoroughly discussed, free from dangerous generalisations and preconceived notions.
Starting with a careful analysis of Italy’s demographic trends and their implications and with the use of updated infographics the book examines the difficult issue from various angles. Salviati, Sagredo and Simplicio, the modern counterparts to Galileo’s protagonists, are given ample space to discuss their opposing views, creating a compelling discussion between the three characters.
A unique book combining analytical rigour and engaging dialogue. A must read for anyone who wants to truly understand the present and future implications of immigration.
