The most famous work from Edgar Degas's early period has been lent to the Galleria Nazionale d'Arte Moderna in Rome by the Musée d'Orsay in Paris.

The Bellelli Family is on display for the fourth time in Italy, and for the first time at the Galleria Nazionale d’Arte Moderna from 2 October 2005 to 22 January 2006. On loan from the Musée d’Orsay, the large canvas, dated 1858-1867, features Baron and Baroness Bellelli and their small daughters, and is one of the many portraits executed by the French master. The work has been hung alongside works from the Tuscan and Macchiaoli schools in the first nineteenth-century art section at the GNAM, for chronological reasons and because the themes are similar. Rome, Gnam, 2 october 2005 – 22 january 2006
