After the recent success of the exhibitions of the work of Alessandro Mendini and Michelangelo Pistoletto, the MARCA gallery in Catanzaro is continuing its program by presenting a project with a strong innovative boost which stems from the need to ask questions about the concept of social communities in an age of radical transformation where technology plays a primary role. For this important event 14 groups and artists belonging to different generations have been involved, namely: Alterazioni Video, Marina Ballo Charmet, Olivo Barbieri, Gabriele Basilico, Vanessa Beecroft, Cristian Chironi, Mario Cresci, Paola Di Bello, Flatform, Nino Migliori, Adrian Paci, Franco Vaccari, Naomi Vona and Carlo Zanni. In the last few decades, our vision of ‘the community’ has been profoundly transformed and we have witnessed a shift away from collective rites which take place at real venues (in houses, streets, parks, or bars), to processes based on technological meeting-places which have evolved in virtual environments (blogs, chats and social networks). In other words, often, the community has become an online community (500 million people world-wide have joined Facebook). However, although the Internet has profoundly altered the relationship between individuals, the desire to belong and to gather to share common interests has remained unchanged.
