The book examines the work of an architects’ studio, Arassociati. Founded in Milan in 1997 by Marco Brandolisio, Giovanni Da Pozzo, Massimo Scheurer and Michele Tadini, the studio has built up its reputation, designing numerous buildings for public and private use in Italy and abroad. Adhering strongly to rational building principles, the architectural research conducted by Arassociati expresses the idea of continuity between the building and its urban setting, in harmony with the territory to which it belongs. Some of the main projects tackled include: the restoration of the former Philips site in Leuven; the luxury Rosa Grand Star Hotel in Piazza Fontana in Milan; the Tiscali Campus at Sa Illetta, near Cagliari; the conversion of the Carmine Cloisters in Brescia into a university library; the Müller-Martini area in Zurich; the Modern Art Gallery in Bologna (MAMBO) and the restructuring and extension of the Théâtre Nationale Populaire (TNP) in Villeurbanne. To these we can add the rebuilding of the La Fenice theatre in Venice, with Aldo Rossi, thanks to which, in 2004, the studio won the International Theatre Architecture Award.
