The rediscovery of a great artist of the Italian 20th century.
[Alberto Savinio / General catalogue] A splendid painter, writer, essayist, musician, set designer, costume designer, critic and playwright, Alberto Savinio has too long been considered simply the “younger brother of De Chirico”. Only recently has the world of culture rediscovered the brilliant activity and substantial independence of this great artist.
Savinio began painting in 1927, frequenting the circle of the Parisian Surrealists, and then found his own path, an approach that blends autobiographical memory, metaphysical overtones, a taste for color and classical motifs inspired by ancient Greece.
Savinio’s painting urgently required authoritative cataloguing. This publication fills the gap, under the guidance of Pia Vivarelli, a leading expert on the artist and curator of all the exhibitions of his work.
