A new image of the emperor Hadrian, who with his contradictory aesthetic and programmatic choices opened new horizons, achieving an admirable fusion of the cultures of Egypt, Greece and the Occident.

[Hadrian. Architecture and design] A unique exhibition, gathering the extraordinary masterpieces that adorned the villa of the emperor Hadrian in Tivoli in a single site for the first time, the site of their origin. The catalogue of the exhibition “Hadrian. Architecture and design”, held in the archaeological area of Villa Adriana, has an ambitious goal: to trace a new image of the emperor who with his contradictory aesthetic and programmatic choices opened new horizons, achieving an admirable fusion of the cultures of Egypt, Greece and the Occident.
The volume, complete with splendid images and interesting critical writings, illustrates approximately two hundred works, including the marvelous cycle of statues of the Canopus, works that were scattered after the abandoning of the luxurious imperial villa at the end of the later Roman Empire, and are now conserved in the most important museums and collections of Rome and the world.
