Jews, an Italian Story. The Tale, the Language. An invitation from MEIS and Electa to discuss Jewish culture in Italy

To mark the opening of the first permanent segment in the Ebrei, una storia italiana. I primi mille anni exhibition, MEIS, the Museo Nazionale dell’Ebraismo Italiano e della Shoah (The National Museum of Italian Judaism and the Shoah) and publishers Electa are jointly promoting an event in the Rizzoli Galleria entitled Jews, an Italian Story. The Tale, the Language: how to narrate two thousand years of Jewish history and the challenges of the past, present and future.

An event open to everyone with an interest in the history of the Jews in Italy, their stories and experiences, as narrated by the exhibition. This explains how a Jewish community was formed and developed in Italy from the Roman period to the Middle Ages and how Italian Jews built their own unique geographical identity, one which stood apart from that of other Diaspora communities in other parts of the world. An encounter which traces the narrative down to the present day and explores contemporary issues and languages.

Special guests include Gad Lerner, Aldo Grasso and Andrée Ruth Shammah.
The event is moderated by Simonetta Della Seta, MEIS Managing Director.
With an introduction by Dario Disegni, MEIS President.
