Amori Divini
at the National Archaeological Museum of Naples from 7th June to 16th October 2017

The exhibition Amori Divini is on at the National Archaeological Museum of Naples from 7th June to 16th October 2017.

The exhibition explores Greek myths and their popularity through history, focusing on the themes of seduction and transformation in various guises. Drawing inspiration from a vast repertoire from Pompeii, art and classical literature, the exhibition takes a fresh look at the myths of Danae, Leda, Daphne, Narcissus and many others, exploring how their stories have been passed down over the centuries to become an integral part of our cultural heritage.
Over 70 works from Pompeii and Herculaneum, together with generous loans from leading Italian and international museums, among them the J. Paul Getty Museum of Los Angeles and the Kunsthistorisches Museum in Vienna, are juxtaposed with a selection of art works from the 16th and 17th centuries, including masterpieces by Baccio Bandinelli, Bartolomeo Ammannati, Nicolas Poussin and Giambattista Tiepolo.
The Amori Divini exhibition is staged by stARTT, Studio di Architettura e Trasformazioni Territoriali, Rome, curated by Anna Anguissola and Carmela Capaldi with Luigi Gallo and Valeria Sampaolo, and promoted by the Ministry of Cultural Heritage and Tourism and the National Archaeological Museum of Naples with organisation and catalogue by Electa.
