Incanto e Mito Savinio. Enchantment and Myth

08 feb – 13 jun 2021

The exhibition “Savinio. Incanto e Mito” at the Museo Nazionale Romano di Palazzo Altemps will create surprising points of contact with the magnificent works in the sculpture collection of Palazzo Altemps, suggesting new affinities with an interplay of free and original correspondences and accords.

An eclectic, erudite figure, with multiple interests ranging from music to literature, painting and theatre, Alberto Savinio (Andrea De Chirico, 1891-1952) was an intellectual of extraordinary complexity, capable of relating different disciplines and weaving the humanities into a visionary and avant-garde language.

The exhibition “Savinio. Incanto e mito” at the Museo Nazionale Romano di Palazzo Altemps brings out, through some fundamental themes and insights, the distinction of a poetic that associated and combined ancient and modern, aesthetics and irony, memory and fantasy in a comprehensive outlook that is highly relevant today. Play, illusory and chimeric structures and plots, past civilisations and the auroral ages, the deconstruction of legendary and mythical tales, the kaleidoscopic images that break the visual balance in unexpected and dazzling compositions furnish the clues that lead us through the labyrinthine spaces of the Museum.

Divided into different thematic sections, the paintings on the walls will create surprising points of contact with the magnificent works in the sculpture collection of Palazzo Altemps, suggesting new affinities in an interplay of free and original correspondences and accords.
