Filippo de Pisis

04 oct 2019 – 01 mar 2020

Almost 30 years since the last Milan exhibition, the Museo del Novecento in Milan is dedicating a retrospective to Filippo de Pisis (1896-1956) which aims to restore the Ferrarese artist’s pictorial sensitivity and the leading role he played in Italian painting between the wars.

The exhibition presents to the public over 90 paintings, some of the most ‘lyrical’ works of his production and from the main Italian museum collections. The works will be exhibited in chronological order, starting with his early work in 1919, in which echoes resound of his encounter with de Chirico’s metaphysical painting, until the dramatic phase of his long stays in the psychiatric clinic of the Villa Fiorita in the late forties, with particular attention to the places that inspired his intense expressive research.
