The Gallerie dell’Accademia is housed in the prestigious Scuola Grande di Santa Maria della Carità, one of the oldest secular confraternities in the city. The church of Santa Maria della Carità and the monastery of the Canonici Lateranensi, designed by Andrea Palladio, are also part of the complex.
One of the largest collection of paintings from Venice and the surrounding areas is preserved in the museum, from Byzantine and Gothic works to Renaissance artists like Bellini, Carpaccio, Giorgione, Veronese, Tintoretto and Titian up to Giambattista Tiepolo and the Veduta painters of the 18th century, Canaletto, Guardi, Bellotto, Longhi. Artists who have all left their mark on the history of European painting.
The bookshop is located in the entrance hall near the ticket shop and follows the same opening hours as the museum. Here you will find the complete museum guide in three languages, postcards, bookmarks and stationery with reproductions of the masterpieces exhibited in the museum and catalogues of the latest exhibitions. Important art books, illustrated books and biographies of the most famous Venetian artists and city guides are also available.
