Cristina Casero is the director of Csac. She teaches History of Photography and History of Contemporary Art at the University of Parma, where she is an associate professor. Her studies have first and foremost focused on the experiences of post-World War II Italian figurative culture and 19th-century Italian sculpture, with a particular interest in the links between visual production and the political, social and civil issues of Italy of the times. Her work on the last forty years of the 20th century is along the same lines, mainly dedicated to photographic images analysed in their different meanings. She has co-edited several books, including Anni '70: l'arte dell'impegno. I nuovi orizzonti culturali, ideologici e sociali nell'arte italiana (Silvana Editoriale, 2009), Anni Settanta. La rivoluzione nei linguaggi dell'arte (Postmedia Books, 2015) and a monograph on Paola Mattioli published in 2016. Lo sguardo critico di una fotografa (Postmedia Books) and Gesti di rivolta published 2020. Arte, fotografia e femminismo a Milano 1975 - 1980 (Società per l'Enciclopedia delle Donne). In 2021 she edited the volume Fotografia e femminismo nell'Italia degli anni '70: indagine critica e testimonianza (Postmedia Books) and published Uno sguardo che riflette. Ricerche di fotografia conceptettuale in Italia tra gli anni Sessanta e Settanta (Meltemi).
