Paolo Barbaro is head of the Photography Section of the Communication Studies and Archives Centre at the University of Parma, and has been a member of the scientific committee of the Centre since 1980. He has published essays and volumes on photography including Studio Villani, il lavoro della fotografia (CSAC 1980), Aniello Barone, fotografie 1995-2013 (Electa, 2013); Gianni Leone. Vaghi paesaggi (Skira 2014); curated with Giulio Bizzarri: Luigi Ghirri. Lezioni di fotografia (Quodlibet 2010) and contributed to thirty entries on photography in the Enciclopedia dell'Arte Contemporanea (Istituto dell'Enciclopedia Treccani, 2021). He has taught History of Photography at the University of Parma, Photographic History of Contemporary Architecture at the University of Ferrara, and teaches History and Theory of Narrative Photography at the University of Parma.
