Luca Mercalli

Luca Mercalli (Turin, 1966), climatologist and editor of the magazine Nimbus, presides over the Italian Meteorological Society, which was founded in 1865. He has carried out research on alpine climates and glaciers and he teaches environmental sustainability in schools and universities in Italy, Switzerland and France, something he practices himself by living in a solar powered house, driving an electric car and growing his own produce. He has worked on various programmes on RAI3 including "Che tempo che fa", "Scala Mercalli", "TGMontagne" and "Rainews 24". He is a columnist for "La Stampa", and occasionally writes for the magazines "Donna Moderna" and "Gardenia". He has contributed thousands of articles over the years and participated in over 1900 conferences, and is considered the voice of innovation within the environmental community. His books include: Filosofia delle nuvole, Che tempo che farà, Viaggi nel tempo che fa, Prepariamoci, Clima bene comune, Il mio orto tra cielo e terra. His latest book Non c'è più Tempo, was published by Einaudi.
