Gian Micalessin (Trieste, 1960) began his journalistic career at 23 when he left for Afghanistan to document the Mujahidin's resistance to the Russian invasion. Since the eighties he has reported on over thirty wars, many of which have been forgotten by the media: the wars in south-east Asia, in the Balkans, in Africa and in Chechnya. For the past decade he has mostly written about the Middle East for the Italian newspaper "Il Giornale". He is the author of many TV programmes and news reports and has produced documentaries for Rai, Mediaset and La7.
