This volume signposts the various levels projects can be understood at and presents a selection of objects by explaining the design process from its conception.

The director of the museum, Silvana Annicchiarico, claims: “Our Mini & Triennal CreativeSet exhibitions are far more than mere monographs, they are work in progress, ongoing laboratories that aim to hothouse contemporary Italian design by injecting a healthy dose of dynamism that can only enhance and promote the whole sector”. The title Industrious Design reflects the changing role of today’s designer. After years of hybridism and an infinite array of possible design fields, today’s “industrious” design emphasises the role of design in industry, the need to redefine the profession’s boundaries, rethink the way it relates to industry and explore its mission all along the production process, where designers are increasingly involved every step of the way, from research to development and production, in a host of guises. This volume signposts the various levels projects can be understood at and presents a selection of objects by explaining the design process from its conception. Well-known products are juxtaposed with prototypes on display for the first time. The shapes are explained in various keys: as inventions, type studies and technical processes.
