Sudan, the last male northern white rhinoceros, died in Kenya on 20th March. Two females are now all that is left of this species.
Tim Flach was the last to photograph this majestic animal. The pictures are featured in Animali da salvare (Endangered), the book Tim Flach worked on with the collaboration of some of the world’s most eminent zoologists, including Professor Jonathan Baillie, to document the lives of endangered species.
With his work the photographer hopes to inspire, stimulate us and open our eyes, in the hopes of creating new understanding and respect for nature. His picture of Sudan is now the last, powerful testimony of the animal’s might.
“Never before has it been more important for man to be in tune with nature: our future depends on it.” (Jonathan Baillie)
